12:30-2:30pm: Dementia Education, by Jody Loseth
“Healthy Living for your Brain and Body & Effective Communication Strategies ”
Speaker: Jody Loseth is a members of the West Central Dementia Awareness Network (WCDAN) and volunteer educators for the Alzheimer’s Association. She has given many talks to community organizations for the past 5 years to create awareness and understanding about Alzheimer’s and dementia.
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES: By attending this program, you will be able to
1) Understand the communication changes that take place throughout the course of dementia.
2) Figure out the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia and respond in ways that are helpful to the person.
3) Identify strategies to connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.
HEALTHY LIVING FOR YOUR BRAIN AND BODY
1) Identify the reasons for taking care of yourself
a. List strategies and make a plan for yourself in the following areas:
i. physical health and exercise
ii. diet and nutrition
iii. cognitive activity
iv. social engagement
