Improving Mental Cognition with Aromatherapy
We can all relate to experiencing brain fog, short term memory loss, and concerns for our own mental acuity as we age. This is good news for us all. Because the olfactory system is our only sense with a direct connection to the memory and emotional centers of the brain, one significant benefit of inhaling a variety of aromas is that it enriches neural activity in many regions of the brain. This information ignites further studies for its potential to slow the effects for the early and mid-stage person with dementia. Jody will engage the audience with a memory activity, done with, and without an aromatic, to experience themselves if “smelling something” improves recall. Learning how to use sensory techniques with your memory care residents improves their daily routine and quality of life.

The Art of Working With People
Be honest. Do you ever find yourself saying something like:
I just can’t work with that person!
That adult daughter is just DIFFICULT!
He is just a mean old man!
Whether it’s a challenging co-worker, resident or family member, we can easily slip into avoidance, labeling, or just plain writing people off. But the reality is, no matter the relationship, when we’re at work, we MUST find ways to engage those with whom we work and serve. As professionals, refusing to engage is simply not an option. In this session, we’ll explore ways to better understand the people around us, in an effort to have more productive relationships.
